The Streaming Giant Casts Spot-On Star for Bon Clay in One Piece Third Season

Baroque Works is set to play a huge role in the forthcoming season on Netflix of One Piece, although the real showdown isn’t set to occur until season 3, and a beloved, audience-beloved member has recently been selected.

Netflix announced this week that the skilled actor will appear in the One Piece season 3 cast and will play Bon Clay. The role has the ability to transform into an exact copy of any person they’ve laid a hand on with their dominant hand. Escola, who is identifies as non-binary and goes by they/them, will play a version of that role reimagined as gender non-binary, as opposed to as a drag queen, in the real-life adaptation, unlike the initial comic and anime.

Escola joins multiple new cast members tasked with bringing the organization to reality, such as head the main antagonist, played by Joe Manganiello, Sophia Anne Caruso as another operative, and a familiar face, who will appear as the lineup as the ruler of the desert kingdom.

Even though the role is a important part of Baroque Works, the individual won’t make their debut One Piece the third season. With the next season expected to adapt the Little Garden segment, this signals a significant shift in the placement of the character’s debut, one that could suggest additional alterations to the story’s structure.

The actor’s combination of sharp comedic timing and emotional depth makes them a ideal selection for the role. Along with their recent voice performance in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter, they received high praise and numerous honors for penning and acting in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, emphasizing the range they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s highly regarded roles.

Netflix's live-action One Piece series is due to premiere for its second season on March 10, 2026.
