The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
