Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months after instigating disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull his beloved club out of the drop zone.
Past History Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had history before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All seems to have been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
