Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
