Liverpool's Star Issues Statement to Squad, Discloses Curtis Jones
Jones has shared that the Egyptian forward apologised to the team after the uproar from his televised remarks.
The Incident
The striker was dropped from a European match following voicing frustrations and stating his relationship with manager had broken down.
“He speaks for himself and he can say his own stuff,” the midfielder said. “He apologised to us and was like: ‘If my words hurt anyone, I apologise.’”
Arne Slot has previously declined to reveal on whether he got an explanation from the 33-year-old forward.
Moving Forward
The player stated that the squad's reaction stayed normal. “He was his usual self, he had a big smile on his face and it was business as usual,” the midfielder explained.
He also implied that a competitor wanting to play is preferable. “I get that there are certain ways you can express yourself,” he said. “However, if a player is content to just sit out, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
Positive Results
The team's performance have been impressive in the matches since the interview fallout. Jones believes the forward's comments were not intended to harm the team.
“In moments of frustration, the source has been from a desire to win,” he finished. “It's behind us and we’re uniting strongly, getting results and on a positive run.”
