Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a man who breached a barricade and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more response on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
