Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden championship series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that moment besides Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
